ethos

our mission statement is:
to pursue excellence in delivering high quality, original works of theatre through engaging in rigorous research and development programmes, resulting in works that are of value to the widest community possible.

our artistic policy is:
to utilise theatre as a mechanism for creating new and dynamic discourses around both society and the artform. The company recognises a difference between Theatre and Drama. It draws upon real experiences of oppression and privilege, in order to make works for the stage that are at once urgent and considered.Pacitti Company recognises the intelligence and complexities of audiences and as such strives to produce works that are respectful of this. The company builds upon an internal history of clear aesthetic ambitions and considers it appropriate to engage aspects of Fine Arts, Music, Film, Storytelling, New Technologies, Science, Medicine, Politics, Psychology, History and Philosophy as vital components of its theatre.

our core principles are to:
  1. produce and deliver original works of theatre
  2. pursue excellence in all aspects of our work
  3. make fresh, intelligent comment on urgent cultural concerns
  4. build upon and contribute to the histories of theatre
  5. make theatre that is challenging and progressive
  6. engage in rigorous programmes of research and development to produce skilled works of theatre that are coherent and relevant
  7. construct and engage strategies for the making of theatre that pursue innovation, in terms of both form and content
  8. prioritise the importance of collaboration and difference of experience
  9. understand, employ and demonstrate models of good working practice
  10. make theatre that is of value to the widest community possible

history
Pacitti Company was formed in 1990. For well over a decade it has produced award winning international group and solo performance works, under the artistic auspices of Robert Pacitti, for a range of theatre, gallery and site specific spaces world-wide.

Drawing on a background of punk, activism, fine art and clubland Pacitti Company makes socially engaged work which presses for change. The Company is unequivocally process led and its studio-based practice forms the backbone of its operation. Through it's Research Platform and Think Tank facilities Pacitti Company members are engaged in an ongoing programme of investigation through research. This experimentation provides an extensive 'pool' of ideas, writings, images and concepts which the Company can then engage upon when developing new work.

Known primarily for its unique visual performance style, the past few years have seen a change of focus for Pacitti Company and a diversification of its outputs. Alongside the continuation of its live work, the Company also engages in applying its formal making strategies to sound and Internet based projects, as well as teaching, publishing and curating the work of others. This important plurality of practice has allowed the Pacitti Company to place its theatrical vocabulary and aesthetics in new locations. This in turn has opened up new audiences for the Company's work.

Today Pacitti Company continues to make large and ambitious works that show internationally to great acclaim. The Company's commitment to innovation, and its lack of compromise always ensure a loyal audience following wherever it tours.
