Born in Buenos Aires Sebastian left Argentina first to live in Madrid, and then in London where he has been based since 1990. Coming from a classical music background he gave up a violinist career to concentrate on sound composition. He completed a PhD in Electro-acoustic Music Composition at the University of East Anglia, Norwich in 1999. As a composer and sound artist Castagna works with both traditional and non-conventional sound production techniques. He has written a wide range of music from purely instrumental pieces, music combining acoustic instruments with digital technology, and acousmatic works to sound installation and site-specific works. His music has been performed across Europe and South America and has received national and international prizes and mentions. Sebastian worked as a Senior Lecturer in Sound at the Norwich School of Art & Design from 1996 to 2003, where he created the MA in Animation and Sound Design, the first of its kind in the UK. He is currently Composer in Residence at the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Queen's University, Belfast.
