Silver charms from On Landguard Point - created as part of A People’s Peculiar and Dig & Sow.

People’s Peculiar is a body of objects, artefacts and stories that were collected and created during the making of On Landguard Point, a Pacitti Company project that was the east of England's submission to Artists Taking the Lead, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

From this material, we created 205 symbols to represent ideas of home, inspired by the region’s flora and fauna, myth and legend, history and geography, everyday life and popular culture. You can explore these symbols online or at Abbot’s Hall.

These symbols were then transformed into silver charms by Suffolk-based jewellery-maker Victoria Constable, using Silver Clay. Each charm has a unique story to tell and comes with a detachable ‘OLP’ tag, linking it to the location and providing the context for the design.

An identical set of charms was buried at locations across the region in domestic back gardens during staged archaeological digs, as part of the Dig and Sow project. They remain hidden, for future generations to discover by accident.

A limited edition of a selection of the charms is available for purchase. Each one features a small loop, allowing it to be turned into a pendant, broach, or attached to a charm bracelet.

Charms range from traditional to more unusual symbols, including: heart (pictured), shovel, maggot, talon, high heel shoe, dice, Michael-Mary Ley Line (pictured), bone and tooth.
