SOUND LOUNGE WITH JUSTIN HOPPER + SHARRON KRAUS
THE OLD WEIRD ALBION: MUSIC, LANDSCAPE + MEMORY
Friday night Think Tank adventures in sound and music. Listen to exceptional live performances, have a relaxed drink in our friendly clubhouse, and hear the artists speak about their work.
Tonight we are delighted to welcome Justin Hopper and Sharron Kraus.
Writer Justin Hopper and musician Sharron Kraus consider the relationship between music and the landscape in conjuring alternative visions of Britain. Through individual and collaborative performances, and in conversation, the artists will explore the role of music in connecting to a mythic Britain that lingers in the landscape.
Justin Hopper writes about the intersection of landscape, memory and myth. This event will launch his book The Old Weird Albion – a journey into alternative memories of England among the South Downs. Musician Sharron Kraus’ songwriting and folksong interpretations offer a dark and subversive take on traditional music. Her five solo albums and collaborations such as Rusalnaia have garnered rave reviews, from The Wire and Uncut to fRoots, Dirty Linen and BBC Radio.
