20 September, 27 September, 4 October, 11 October, 18 October

2 week break

8 November, 15 November, 22 November, 29, November, 6 December

Learn Appliqué as a tool to make hand stitched images that represent who we are here in the East of England. We will research, plan and sew pieces, initially on our own and then together.

Suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to experts. Classes will be jointly facilitated by Ipswich textile artist Trisha Bendall, and artist Robert Pacitti. A talented facilitator Trish has a wealth of experience in textile and couture work, and utilises a combination of embroidery, patchwork and quilting in both her own work and her students’. Working internationally as an interdisciplinary artist since the 1980’s, Robert has spent the last decade researching life in the East, as a source of inspiration for new artistic work. Together Trish and Robert offer participants the opportunity to learn the process of Appliqué, in order to then make meaningful pieces that speak of who we are and what we believe. The aim is to create a series of large scale banner works that will be publically displayed as part of the international SPILL Festival, taking place in Ipswich in Autumn 2018.  Sessions are structured as a 10 week journey but for any of you that can’t make the whole course it is possible to attend classes of your choice and still have a meaningful time.

Because we appreciate that you may not know us or our work, we are offering the first session you attend for free, to meet us and find out what it’s all about.

We will be providing most of the materials required to complete your project, however we do ask you to bring a basic sewing kit with you. To make life easier we are working in partnership with Craftability Ipswich who will offer you a 10% discount on the following list of basic equipment, given upon presentation of an email which we will send to you once you book.

Here is what you’ll need to bring:

  • Needles - embroidery and general sewing.
  • Scissors -  large for fabric cutting and snips for threads.
  • A pincushion.
  • A thimble (if you require one)
  • Threads – many will be provided but you may like to bring your own.

As we are focusing on hand stitching you will NOT need a sewing machine
