A COURSE IN MAKING MASKS, FLAGS AND EFFIGIES

WEDNESDAYS

19 September, 26 September, 3 October, 10 October, 17 October

5:30pm-7:30pm

-

During SPILL Festival this year we will present the Pyre Parade on Saturday 3 November – a large-scale free community event inviting people to share and burn bad news. We will walk through the streets, from the Waterfront to Christchurch Park, wearing masks and making noise, before burning bad news inside an effigy.

In advance, come along to these Parade Skills sessions led by artists Kirsty Thorpe and Robert Pacitti and make your own masks, flags + effigies for use at the Pyre Parade. These sessions are for everyone and no previous experience is required. All materials will be provided over the 5 weeks.

Suitable for anyone aged 13+ with an interest in arts + craft, mass participation, masks + effigies, local customs, world traditions, personal power, the use of herbs, or masquerade.

About Kirsty

An experiential artist who is proud to be born and bred in Ipswich, with over 10 years of experience in engaging minority and hard to reach groups of people from her local community. As a theatre maker she specialises in creating Multi- Sensory theatre for disabled audiences, telling big, fresh and contemporary stories that connect with all the senses and promote the idea that the arts is for everybody. Stylistically her work strives to be bold, relevant, messy and political, with an ethos to inspire, empower and celebrate difference.
